Rev. Wright made a keynote speech at Northwestern U's FMO (For Members Only - NU's black students' alliance).
When he started his speech, he clarified by saying:
His “God damn America” sermon? A white professor at Harvard said a similar thing in 1901. The first ever election of a black President? “Incredibly powerful” and “awesomely inspiring.” Unfair treatment from the media? “Ray Charles can see that.”Here's the link: Rev. Among the audience was William Ayers.
The day after Obama's V day, William Ayers came out of his house to chat with New Yorker's reporter wearing a "Boondocks" T shirts. He was also on Democracy Now (left wing news show) on Friday.
The transcript of the interview can be found here and of course, you can get this show via iTunes (both audio and video):Democracy Now! | Democracy Now! Exclusive (Part 1): Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn on the Weather Underground, the McCain Campaign Attacks, President-Elect Obama and the Antiwar Movement Today
As I suspected, Ayers said this about Obama:
You know, we, like thousands of other people, we knew Obama, and we knew him as well, probably, as thousands of other people. He was a guy in the neighborhood. He was somebody that was active in civic life, as we are. And so, of course we would meet and see one another at meetings and so on.
I just want to mention that this interview was exceptional. Unlike other media, they spent enough time to examine what exactly happened, driven by intellectual curiosity.
